Preparation of Activated Carbon from the Peels of Carya Cathayensis Sarg by KOH Activation

摘要
A series of activated carbon were prepared from the Peels of carya cathayensis sarg with KOH as the activation agent. The effects of such activation parameters as the dosage of KOH, activation temperature and activation time were investigated. The specific surface area and pore structure of the nanoporous carbon were characterized by BET and BJH method using N-2 adsorption at 77 K. Pyrolysis process was described by TG curves, and crystalline structure of the sample was defined by X-ray scattering method. Activated carbon with high specific surface area of 2817 m(2)/g was obtained in the conditions of a KOH/precursor ratio of 3.0, an activation temperature of 900 degrees C and an activation time of 1.5 h. And it had porous structure with abundant micropores and a small quantity of mesopores.
