Ovarian and adrenal function in polycystic ovary syndrome

摘要：
Functional ovarian hyperandrogenism is found in most cases of PCOS. Functional adrenal hyperandrogenism is found in about half of PCOS patients. The cause of the excessive androgen secretion by both glands seems to be abnormal regulation of steroidogenesis. This may result from hyperinsulinemia or intrinsic disturbances of intraglandular autocrine or paracrine regulatory mechanisms.
