Equine keratomycosis in Northern Italy: 13 clinical cases (1998-2002)

In the last twenty years there has been an increase in the interest by equine ophthalmologists concerning keratomycosis in horses, even though today it is still considered a high risk sight threatening disease. The abovementioned pathology, widely described by American and British authors, is well known in countries characterized by a warm-humid climate. Nevertheless in our country there are no bibliographic references available in regard to this pathology. In this article 13 clinical cases of keratomycosis collected from field experiences between 1998 and 2002 are described with particular attention to pathogenesis, clinical presentation diagnosis, laboratory findings medical and surgical management and visual function outcome.
