Aflatoxicosis in swine - A bibliographic review of clinical cases and experimental data.

Aflatoxin B1 bioactivation with P450 cytochrome dependant monooxygenases produces ail exo-epoxyde that call interact with nucleic acids and proteins. Liver is the main target organ of anatoxin B1 because of its enzymatic capacity. Atlatoxin hepatotoxic properties lead to the destruction of the metabolic function,,; and tissue organization in liver. Aflatoxins also show immunosuppressive properties. This review summaries aflatoxicosis characteristics in swine. During acute aflatoxicosis. almost all animals died Within During or days following the intoxication. During chronic aflatoxicoses. the first signs are significant reductions in feed intake and a depressed state of the animals. Young swines are more sensitive than adults to aflatoxins. Development of hepatic lesions is dependent oil aflatoxin concentration and oil time of exposition and is usually associated with ail increase in plasmatic levels of the hepatic enzymes and I decrease in plasmatic levels of albumin. Chronic intoxication with aflatoxins reduce vaccine efficacy. Association of aflatoxins with other mycotoxins does not seem to induce synergic toxic effects except for fumonisin B1. Incorporation of some inorganic or organic mycotoxin hinders in animal feed show a protective effect toward aflatoxins contamination.
