A Simple Octagonal Wideband Frequency and Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna for Multiband Operations

摘要
This paper presents an octagonal bandwidth enhanced frequency and pattern reconfigurable antenna for C and X band applications. The proposed antenna can operate at dual-band with wide bandwidth. The designed antenna is simple and compact, with dimensions 32x32mm. Two slits are made on the patch one is horizontal, and another one is inclined. ThreePIN diodes are placed in slits to achieve frequency and pattern reconfiguration. The antenna covers a wide operating range in C, X and UWB bands by employing a partial ground plane. The H plane radiation pattern is reconfigurable in 35 degrees, 80 degrees,105 degrees,110 degrees,175 degrees and 185 degrees. The radiation pattern steered to 120 degrees, 240 degrees and 270 degrees in the E plane. The simulated results show that the designed antenna has a -10dB impedance bandwidth of 98.64% (3.61-11.7GHz), 75.9% (5.14-11.07GHz), 75.6% (5.15-10.86GHz) 66.09% (5.59-9.99GHz),41.7% (5.62-9.64GHz) 25.65% (3.54-4.61GHz), 25.4% (3.55-4.6GHz), 22.32% (3.7-4.66GHZ) and 22.07 (3.56-4.4GHz). This antenna can be used in UWB, WiMAX, WLAN, satellite communication and space research.
