Biosphere reserves:: Model territories for sustainable development

The problems associated with the environment have long been looked upon and processed as the problems of natural science and technologies. The measures of technical character served as strategies for lowering the effect of the identified harmful influences on the environment. The growing and better understanding of the connections in the environment has brought and supports the thesis that "the global environmental crisis" is actually "the crisis of society" (Kruse-Graumann, 1998), This crisis is evident in relation to man and his environment, i.e. in various types of behaviour, actions of individuals and groups, communities and countries, and their cumulative effect leads to significant changes even to the destruction of the existential foundations for life (animals, plants, people) on the Earth, The object of current efforts is, not only in science, the change of the relation man - the environment and the development of the new forms of social activity, which would finally lead to the sustainability of life conditions.
