A Novel Method of Obtaining Backtrace Data To Simulate Debris Drifting Paths

This study aims to review the potential for utilizing multiple ocean surface current paths as a new parameter in searching the ocean for the resting places of large missing objects, such as Malaysia Airlines MH370 or Air France 447. After several existing models are summarized and discussed along with their main limitations, a new method of searching together with an effective mathematical model is proposed and presented in this study. The method for data collection is also provided in the study. An experiment has been designed and conducted to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method. The calculated results through the proposed model and the results from testing have been compared and analyzed in the study. From this, several important conclusions and suggestions have been made for future efforts in searching for aircraft lost at sea.
