The medical evaluation of the sexually abused child

The medical diagnosis of child sexual abuse has significant limitations. The medical history is often incomplete or ambiguous. The physical examination in most cases is normal and positive laboratory findings are rare. Consequently, the diagnosis is often made based upon the history alone, and the validity of the history must be evaluated carefully.
