Lifestyle in patients with type II diabetes mellitus of a health institution in Santa Marta, Colombia, 2017

Determine the lifestyle of patients with type II diabetes mellitus of a health institution in the city of Santa Marta. Descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study. The lifestyle variable measured through seven domains is described: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco consumption, alcohol consumption, information on diabetes, emotions and therapeutic adherence, the sample was represented by 105 patients, who attended control in one First level institution of attention. It is evidenced that 53% are women, patients are in the ages of 18-35 years (9%), 36-59 years (44%) and over 60 years (47%). 55% of patients show inadequate lifestyle, established by alcohol consumption (10%), some smoke (5%), and others consume food between meals (60%); They also refer to low to medium self-esteem, while 75% report good adherence to the treatment. The participants of this study despite having behaviors of responsibility for their health, they still have behaviors to modify related to alcohol, cigarettes and nutrition as a predominant domain; This is what determines an inappropriate lifestyle.
