Restoration of Congenitally Missing Lateral Incisors After Orthodontic Treatment

Treatment planning to restore the congenitally missing lateral incisor must occur before the initiation of orthodontic treatment, with consideration given to the patient's age and development. Historically, treatment options have been very limited for teenage postorthodontic patients with this condition. More recently, the introduction of fiber-reinforced composite materials in dentistry has provided a conservative, esthetic, and durable restorative option. This article reviews various restorative modalities for this condition and describes the treatment of a teenage patient with congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors. Fiber-reinforced composite fixed partial dentures may be an excellent option for this group. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
