Design and implementation of a real-time Coastal Monitoring Network

摘要
In recognition of the need for accurate long-term coastal data, the State of New Jersey has funded the development of a near real-time Coastal Monitoring Network. The monitoring network consists of 3 nodes located along the coast, each measuring nearshore oceanographic and atmospheric conditions on an hourly basis. The planning, site selection, design, and installation of the network are described. Preliminary results of the initial data collected from one of the monitoring network nodes indicates the importance of the spatial and temporal variation in wind and wave climate to New Jersey coastal processes.
