A real-time algorithm for MAC throughput enhancement by dynamic RTS-CTS threshold in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs

摘要
In this paper, a real-time algorithm updating the RTS-CTS threshold dynamically according to the number of transmission attempts and the number of STAs (Stations) in the BSS (Basic Service Set) is proposed to have the maximum MAC throughput of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. Numerical examples show that the proposed algorithm enhances the MAC throughputs of IEEE 802.11 a and b wireless LANs by about 25% and 28% on the averages of the test cases, respectively, when the length of data frames is variable based on the experimental statistics.
