Numerical Analysis of Bi-Directional Pile Load Tests for Drilled Shafts in Rocks

摘要
A bi-directional pile load tests are an effective method for load testing drilled shafts, and have widely used. However, the bi-directional pile load test is fundamentally different to a conventional head-down pile load test. In this study, a total of two bi-directional pile load tests were conducted on large diameter drilled shafts on high raised buildings in Busan, Korea, and their test results were calibrated and extrapolated with a finite element analysis. Also, the FE computations enabled a comparison between the equivalent head-down test from the bi-directional pile load test and a conventional head-down pile load test and determined ultimate capacities.
