Five new coordination polymers [Cu(OBA)(1,2-bix)](n)center dot nH(2)O (1), [Cu(1,4-bix) (O-OBA)](n) (2), [Cd-3(1,2-mbix)(2)(O-OBA)(3)]n center dot H2O (3), [Cu(1,2-bix) (H2ODPT)]n center dot 2nH(2)O (4), [Cd-4(ODPT)(2)(1,3-bix)(2)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (5) (H(2)OBA = 4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid), O-H(2)OBA = 2,2'-oxybis(benzoic acid), H4ODPT = 4,4'-oxidiphtalic acid, 1, n-bix = 1,n-bis(imidazol-l-ylmethyl)benzene (n = 2,3,4), 1,2-mbix = 1,2-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-lylmethyl)benzene, have been synthesized. Their structures have been determined by single crystal Xray diffraction analyses and further characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Compound 1 is a 2D (4,4) topological structure, Complex 2 exhibits a double-chain structure. The 3D network structure of 3 is a five-connected BN topological framework with the Schlafli symbol of 4(6).6(4). Compound 4 is a three-connected hcb topological layer with the Schlafli symbol of 6(3). The network topology of the 3-D framework in 5 can be simplified by considering the Cd-4 cluster to be 8-connected nodes, (ODPT)(4-) ligands as 3-connected nodes, and 1,3-bix ligands as linkers. As a result, a previously unknown framework topology with the total Schlafli symbol of 3.4(4).5(2).6(9).7.8(4) and the long vertex symbol of 3.4.4.4.4.6(2.)6(2.)6(2).6(2).6(2).6(2).6(2.)6(2.)8.8 is formed. The photoluminescent properties of 3 and 5 were investigated. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
