摘要
This paper shows how modular computer simulation can be used to aid the synthesis and evaluation of pulp and paper mill closure options. These closure options are aimed at reducing water usage (hence reducing effluent volume) as well as saving fibers. chemicals. and energy. On the negative side, mill closure results in higher levels of undesirable substances in the water systems. Simulation is essential to understand both the positive and negative aspects of mill closure. Several mathematical models related to mill closure, such as VOC emission models, have been developed. This paper shows how these models have been implemented in the University of Idaho/Pacific Simulation, WinGEMS, and applied to full mill simulation.
