摘要
Direct measurements of the electrocaloric effect (ECE) in bulk lead-free relaxor K0.5Na0.5NbO3-SrTiO3 (KNN-STO) ceramics sintered in air have been performed by using electrocaloric thermometry, i.e., a high-resolution calorimetry with a small modification to the experimental setup and software. The obtained results confirm the existence of a large ECE in this material in the vicinity of the ferroelectric phase transition, where the electrocaloric temperature change T-EC around 0.5K was achieved under a field of 80kV/cm. At room temperature T-EC is comparable with that observed in lead-based ceramic materials, so far the most studied electrocaloric materials, which, however, are less environmentally friendly due to the toxicity of lead.
