摘要
In the context of the demographic changes in Europe in which the support of innovation in health contributes to successfully addressing the challenge of sustainability in the sector, this article examines the actions of Member States in reducing inequalities in the health field and their significance for an inclusive economic growth. Given that the improvement of the quality of life results in increased productivity and competitiveness while reducing, at the same time, the pressure on national budgets, this article examines how promoting good health at EU level is an integral part of the Europe 2020 strategy, aimed at sustainable, smart and inclusive development. At the same time, the article presents the need to place at the center of the single market an empowered European citizen in order to create a global environment that allows patients to exercise their right to health and to benefit from it. Keeping a healthy and active population for as long as possible and empowering it to be actively involved in managing their own health, will have positive effects on overall public health, including the reduction of health inequalities and a positive impact on the quality of life.
