Journalism of the third millenium. Problems of science diffusion in Iberoamerica

In our times information professionals whose mission is to explain the universe to the public and to make the majority participate of the discoveries and the research of that minority formed by men of science. Scientific journalism constitutes an instrument for democracy, as it allows a great number of people to follow the advances of knowledge. As of now, this idea has not fully reached the public, and not even polititians and other leaders of our societies. The current state of affairs is not based anymore on punctual information, but on its explicative side and also on the diffusion of present knowledge about nature, thought, mankind and problems of the universe. Concerning scientific journalism the needs of Latin America are severe, People are not satisfied in their right to be informed about so decisive effects in our daily life and for the future of mankind. The main problems of science diffusion in Iberoamerica originate in the lack of an environment of popular interest for knowledge. A massive task of popular education in science and technology is still missing in our countries, and this begins to worry the high instances of politics, culture and the economy.
