Estimating interactions in blends of polyamides, polyesters and polycarbonate using copolymers

A binary interaction model (BIM), formulated in terms of elementary chemical species, e.g., -CH2-, -COO-, is applied to blends of homopolymers and copolymers composed of polyamides, polyesters and polycarbonate. By establishing interactional ''null'' points it is shown how estimates of the interactions, both favorable and unfavorable, between the blend constituents can be obtained. The predictive potential of the parameters derived is examined in various situations, such as blends of PA-66/PET.
