The purpose of this essay is to analyze the phubbing phenomenon in college students and the reason that smart phone caused alienation to them. Using integration of qualitative and quantitative research methods, the present study investigated four hundred and sixty four students and three counselors. Survey results show that: Firstly, smart phones have been entrenched into three fields: learning, life, and social contact of contemporary college students. The smart phone is not only a tool to get information, but also their spiritual home. Secondly, with the popularity of smart phones, many college students are under the influence of smart phone addiction, which has caused great harm to the college students' personal health, confused their regular life and led to alienation of their relationships. The paper shows that phubber addicts to smart phone tend to snub someone around them, and should be careful of their mode of using smart phones. Phubber should cultivate more hobbies or interests to entertain themselves instead of being a slave to their smart phones. It can be avoided through spending more time on contacting with their friends or parents.
