Challenges and Opportunities of IoT deployment in Ecuador

Day by day cities over the world become more intelligent. The Internet of Things(IoT) has had an important impact in the evolution of the interaction between people, things and the Internet. This paper studies the current status of the IoT development in Ecuador, its challenges and opportunities of IoT deployment. From the point of view of Ecuador, this paper analyzes such challenges on industry, infrastructure and technology, security and privacy, legal aspects, education and society. Moreover, several opportunities and potential applications were identified in order to contribute to the development of the country. Finally, this paper discusses the need to develop a legal framework to guarantee an adequate IoT deployment accompanied by a reasonable support for IoT initiatives in the country.
