The list is published yearly by the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture (UKZUZ) commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. Those who take part in the testing are Sugar Beet Growers Associations, sugar companies and seed firms. The testing replaces the former system of United testing of registered sugar beet varieties (existing since 1993). Leaf diseases, yield, sugar content, sugar yield etc. are evaluated. The INDEX is the overall indicator expressing parameters of a variety to the average of all tested assortment on a relative scale. 31 varieties were included in the testing in the year 2008 and the share of resistant varieties increased,
