Synthesis and reactions of sterically hindered α-naphthyl- and cyclohexylantimony(V) derivatives

Interhalogen and halo-pseudohalogens IX (X = Cl, Br, N-3, NCO), (SCN)(2), S and TeCl4 add oxidatively to (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb to afford (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbIX, (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb(SCN)(2), (alpha-C10H7)(3) SbS and (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbCl2, respectively, Reactions of R3SbCl2 (R = alpha-C10H7, cyclo-C6H11) with MY (M = Ag, K, Na; Y = SCN, CN, NCO, N-3) yielded the penta-coordinate products, R3Sb(SCN)(2), R3Sb(NCO)(2), (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb(CN)(2) and (alpha-C-10 H-7)(3)Sb(N-3)(2). The compounds (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbIN3, (alpha-C10H7)(3) SbI(NCO), (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbI(SCN) and (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbI(SeCN) are also accessible by selective replacement reactions of (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbICl or (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbIBr with the corresponding metalsalts. Hydrolysis of R3SbCl2(R=alpha-C10H7, cyclo-C6H11) afforded (R3SbCl)(2)O-type compounds. (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb inserts into the N-chloro bond of N-chlorosuccinimide and N-cholorophthalimide to give (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb(Cl)NCO(CH2)(2)CO and (alpha-C10H7)(3)Sb(Cl)NCO(C6H4)CO. These haloimides may also be prepared by the interaction of (alpha-C10H7)(3)SbCl2 With the corresponding sodium salt of the imido moiety.
