摘要
Michael Maccoby shares his views on organizational leadership and the process of natural selection. Modern bureaucracies are structured with the assumption that people are more strongly motivated by self-interest. Managers are taught that each individual's output will combine to produce the desired product when organizational roles and processes are designed well. The work culture in IBM does not depend on a visionary leader's ability to engage altruistic genes. Its work culture succeeds in directing the self-interest gene so that people want to collaborate to achieve a purpose, which is beneficial for them and their organization. The process of organizational leadership and the process of natural selection at the company relies on using products and services to solve problems and improve the functioning of businesses and public institutions. It is demonstrated that a collaborative culture depends on everyone in the organization sharing a purpose and following a philosophy that signifies the practical values needed to achieve it.
