摘要
According to the World Health Organization the increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to antibiotics is a global health problem. Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell density-dependent regulatory system, which is responsible for the drug resistance, pathogenicity, biofilm formation, etc. The aim of our study was to look for new QS-related phenotypes inhibitors and to research their activities. We studied the anti-QS potentials of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and n-butanol (n-BuOH) fractions obtained from crude methanol (MeOH) extract from roots and aerial parts of the Bulgarian medicinal plant Geurn, urbanum L. against Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01 virulence factors, such as swarming motility and pigment production, at sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations and in concentration-dependent manner. The tested fractions did not inhibit the synthesis of violacein. The EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions were more active compared to petroleum ether fractions against QS of P. aeruginosa. The observed anti-QS potential of G. urbanum fractions can contribute in future to detection of new natural bioactive compounds from the active mixtures or to isolation of individual compounds suppressing Pseudomonas communication by inhibition of QS system.
