Structural Evolution During Friction Stir Welding and Dry Sliding Friction

摘要
In this paper, we compare adhesion transfer under conditions of sliding friction and friction stir welding on an Al-Mg-Sc-Zr aluminum alloy. According to the disk-disk scheme, sliding friction experiments were conducted at various parameters. To identify the specifics of the structure formation, plastic flow in the mixing zone of the Al-Mg-Sc-Zr aluminum alloy, 35 mm thick, was studied. The studies allowed revealing that the structure of the stir zone is represented by dynamically and primarily recrystallized grains. A similar structure is observed in sliding friction and the region where the material experiences less deformation and a lower temperature is analogous to the zone of thermo-mechanical action in FSW.
