摘要
The communication subsystem in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is primarily responsible for energy consumption; therefore minimization of energy consumption is a challenging issue in these networks. The present work incorporates data reduction using GM (1, 1) as prediction model to propose an efficient routing scheme for WSNs. In this paper, two approaches have been devised involving energy efficient cluster based routing protocol with residual energy and distance based cluster head selection method. This leads to a reduction in overheads during cluster formation. Further, inter-cluster and intra-cluster transmissions are also minimized using proposed prediction based data reduction scheme resulting in an overall reduction in energy consumption of WSNs.
