Reception of Quasi-Electrostatic Waves by Dipole Antennas in a Resonant Magnetoplasma

摘要
We consider reception of quasi-electrostatic waves by dipole antennas in a resonant magnetoplasma. The receiving antenna response to these waves can be quite complicated, and its effective length can differ significantly from the antenna geometric length. We analyze how the effective length depends on the parameters of the incident quasi-electrostatic waves. We study its dependence (a) on the distance between the wave source and the receiving antenna, (b) on the spatial scales of the incident wave electric field, and (c) on the frequency of the quasi-electrostatic waves. In particular, we show that dependence of the effective length on the wave frequency has multiple resonances, and their frequencies depend only weakly on the the antenna orientation and geometry. We apply the results to the satellite observations of the oblique whistler-mode chorus emissions propagating in the Earth's magnetosphere.
