摘要：
I briefly review past efforts to characterize the properties of compact stellar nuclei in nearby galaxies, and describe a, program - the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey (ACSVCS) - to observe 100 early-type members of the Virgo Cluster using the Rubble Space Telescope. The properties of the nuclei from this survey are compared with those of the globular clusters. A similar comparison between the nuclei and the supermassive black holes found in many massive galaxies points to an unforseen causal relationship between these two types of central massive objects.
