A HISTORY OF THE INDO-EUROPEAN PROBLEM

This brief history of the Indo-European problem focuses attention manly on the efforts by linguists and archeologists to locate a Proto-European Urheirnat. While the enquiry began as an exercise in is paleontology, archeologists inevitably became involved in hat is esentially an exercise in prehistoric research. Despite recent advances in archeological methodology and the accumulation of additional archeological data, further clarification of terms and possibly even of methodology remains necessary. Readers are invited to submit addenda to this article for publication in the Debate- and Discussion section of future issues of this journal.
