My paper focuses on the strained dyn amics of contemporary literary studies, identifying the "new alliances" between the book, the science and the bite, the spectacular "turns" or the intensive trading of models in the area, as unmistakable symptoms of their self-induced status crisis and of academic visibility. It maps out these developments in a general perspective and finally takes a look at the Romanian case study.
