摘要
The titania (TiO2) nanotube system has broad potential for photoelectrochemical solar cell applications, but its conversion efficiency is limited by the wide 3.2eV bandgap. We demonstrate a significant improvement of the photoelectrochemical performance of TiO2 nanotubes by extending absorption into the visible spectrum via modification with electrodeposition of cuprous oxide (Cu2O). We have studied the morphology of Cu2O nanocrystals embedded into the surface of the TiO2 nanotubes, and evaluated the impact of morphology and doping type on the photoelectrochemical performance. A fourfold enhancement in conversion efficiency has been achieved using a 3-step pulse electrodeposition technique. (c) 2012 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
