Stay a little longer:: A last roundup of Texas dance halls

Everything is bigger in Texas, and the honky-tonks and dance halls are no exception. bandleader Geronomo Trevino III has spent much of the last eleven years performing on this circuit of historic venues and has studied the colorful origins and customs peculiar to these hallowed halls, where so many country icons have held court over the past century and new legends are being born every Friday and Saturday night. This research has been compiled in a forthcoming book entitled Dance Halls and Last Calls, due to be published this spring by Wordware Publishing's Republic of Texas Press, and the JCM is privileged to reprint some of the chapters and photos from that important work in this special "Texas music issue'.
