摘要
Literary translation from Chinese to English, especially that on poetry, is less frequently taught in Hong Kong tertiary institutions. This paper puts its emphasis on literary translation courses, including classical texts. Students have to be taken care of in terms of bilateral thinking and reception, which means they need to cross the border - to learn how to render the literary texts in a rational and modern way - apart from the context of the texts themselves, they have to put their stress on the day-to-day parts of speech, grammatical and syntactic arrangements of the poetry. What should not be neglected is that students are taught to be critical and rational about both creating and translating poetry and other literary texts, and distinguishing well between the structures and formations of these texts written in the Chinese and English languages as they are from different linguistic systems.
