Simulations of nanosensors based on single walled carbon nanotubes

摘要
The potential of single-walled carbon nanotubes as mass sensors is examined. The change in mass leads to proportional changes in the nanotube vibrational frequencies, which are monitored during atomistic simulations. We observed a frequency shift as a result of replacement of carbon C-12 with its isotope C-13. For a zigzag (12,0) nanotube of about 10 nm length, we found zeptogram sensitivity.
