SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SOME NOVEL N-MANNICH BASES OF BENZIMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES

摘要
A novel series of benzimidazole derivatives was synthesized. The reaction of N-1 hydrogen of 2- substituted benzimidazoles (SR1-3) with primary (sulphanilamide) and or secondary (piperazine) amines in ethanol yielded the corresponding N-Mannich bases (SR4-9). The structures of synthesized compounds were elucidated by UV, IR, H-1 NMR and mass spectral analysis. Final compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity by disc diffusion method. All the synthesized derivatives exhibited very good antibacterial and antifungal activities.
