In 5-dimensional theories on multiply-connected manifolds the fifth component of the gauge fields can be identified with the Higgs field. We consider the Hosotani mechanism on S-1/Z(2) orbifold with an SU (2) gauge group. When A(5) gets a VEV the gauge symmetry is completely broken. The VEV is undetermined at the tree level but a potential is generated at one loop. Finite temperature effects on the effective potential are studied.
