Spatial variability of the quality of groundwater in the municipality of La Canada de Urdaneta in Zulia State

The spatial variability of the quality of the groundwater available for agriculture, in the municipality of La Canada de Urdaneta in the state of Zulia, was determined through a geospatial analysis of pH, electrical conductivity, saturation index, alkalinity, RAS, total dissolved solids, water's hardness, cations and anions. Using 62 georeferenced observations, semivariograms were calculated, choosing the best-fitting mathematical model to make a spatial distribution map using interpolation by punctual kriging. The high values of RAS observed, indicate that most of these aquifers have severe limitations for their use in agriculture due to the presence of sodium salts, therefore, they require the application of amendments and adequate agronomic management, in order to avoid any negative effect on crops or potential soil salinization.
