Effects of seed moisture content and temperature on the storability of Phoenix hanceana (Arecaceae)

摘要
Seed storage behaviour of the palm species Phoenix hanceana Naudin was investigated. Seeds survived dehydration to 4.9%-8.2% moisture content (MC) (fresh weight basis) during storage at 4 degrees C for 12 months Without loss of germinability, whereas those that were dehydrated to the same MC condition but stored at -20 degrees C for 12 months decreased by about 15-44% points. Seeds with MCs of 4.8%-13.8% stored in liquid nitrogen (-196 degrees C) remained their original germinability for one year. These characteristics of P. hanceana seeds may be considered as intermediate storage behaviour.
