摘要
In this paper, an error resilient, wavelet-based compression algorithm is studied for the transmission of images and video over severely band-limited tactical communications channels. The underlying communications system uses both direct sequence spreading and fast frequency hopping to provide anti-jam capability. As a result of the hopping, noncoherent detection is used. The bit rate available for video will generally be under 300 kb/s. To make effective use of the channel, an optimal trade-off between source and channel coding is desired. I;br system variants, when it will be possible to also change the modulation, the optimization should include the source, channel, and modulation.
