Nitrate removal from tapwater by means of electrocoagulation-flotation process

摘要
The removal of nitrate from tapwater by electrocoagulation-flotation (ECF) process was investigated. An ECF reactor made of Plexiglass with a working volume of 8 L was used. The effect of different arrangements of anode/cathode electrodes, that is, Al/Fe, Fe/Al, and SS/Fe, as well as the effects of operating parameters on the ECF process were evaluated. Design-Expert software was used for the experimental design and the response surface methodology method was employed to examine the five variables at five levels. The results reveal that at the optimum conditions, the Al/Fe electrodes, up to 93% of the nitrate was removed. The economy of the process is commented.
