This essay examines how the practical performance of armor in the late-medieval romance The Knightly Tale of Gologras and Gawain demonstrates both the inherent materiality of chivalric performance and the connections this materiality forges between the chivalric bodies enclosed within armor and the laboring bodies responsible for crafting that armor.
