Nonlinear vector rotation and depolarization of femtosecond laser pulses propagating in non-birefringent single-mode optical fibers

摘要
The nonlinear polarization vector rotation and depolarization of linearly polarized femtosecond laser pulses have been measured when the pulses propagated through short non-birefringent single-mode optical fibers. Nonlinear polarization vector rotation angles up to 150 degrees have been measured for laser pulses with energy as small as 5 nJ propagating in a fiber. A model using self- and cross-phase modulation has been developed to explain the nonlinear polarization characteristics.
