User participation in rehabilitation research and development

摘要：
The paper discusses user participation in research by applying a typology that distinguishes between conventional and participatory research. This typology is applied in an analysis of the participatory elements in a recent research project among users of rehabilitation services. It is shown that the distinction between the two research types is not clear cut and suggested that more analytical approaches to user participation may contribute to reveal what is behind the often very optimistic but vague rhetoric around user participation.
