Influence of Aging on Electrical, Optical and Morphological Properties of Polyaniline

摘要
Polyaniline is synthesized by interfacial polymerization method using chloroform and water as two different phases. The obtained powder changes into fibrous material on storing it for a period of 30 days. A change in surface morphology of polyaniline from granular to nanorods has been observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). DC conductivity measurements on the polymer have been carried out in the temperature range 300-450 K. The results show increase in the conductivity by three orders of magnitude after aging. UV-Vis spectroscopy is used to study the optical properties, which reveal that the optical band gap decreases on aging.
