摘要
Photonic lanterns are novel photonic devices, which can be realized as an all-fiber device by an adiabatic taper of a single mode fiber (SMF) bunch arranged within a low index capillary. They are broadly classified based on the number of SMF cores and the functionality of mode selectivity. We present a detailed mathematical model to design and analyze generation of orbital angular momentum ( OAM) modes using photonic lanterns. The effects of various design parameters like asymmetry and taper profile on the output OAM mode is discussed. Three and six core photonic lanterns have been used as examples for the study.
