Nonlinear optical single crystal of alpha-L-Histidine dihydrochloride (alpha-LHDC) and beta-L-Histidine dihydrochloride (beta-LHDC) was synthesized by saturated solution was prepared at room temperature and it was kept at room temperature for the slow evaporation. The grown crystals were characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, which shows that the (alpha-LHDC and beta-LHDC crystals) crystal are belongs to monoclinic and orthorhombic in structure. The FTIR spectrum conformed the functional group presents in the alpha-LHDC and beta-LHDC crystals crystal. The emission of green light with the use of Nd:YAG laser using the first harmonics output of 1064 nm with a pulse width of 8ns. The DTA analyses of both crystals confirm that there is no exothermic or endothermic peak below 190C. Hence, it could be concluded that alpha and beta forms of LHDC are thermally stable up to 191C and 220(degrees)C respectively. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
