Uniform nanosized SnO2 particles were prepared by a hydrothermal method using SnCl4 . 5H(2)O as the starting material. The influences of reaction temperature, acidity in reaction medium and concentration of reactant on the formation, morphology and particle size of SnO2 crystallite were investigated, The XRD analysis showed that the products formed at different temperatures (120 similar to 220 degrees C) in acid medium were all tetragonal SnO2. With raising reaction temperature, particles grew gradually. Their particle sizes were ca. 2 nm (120 degrees C) similar to nm (220 degrees C) in [SnCl4]=1 mol/L, pH=1.45, respectively. Decreasing the acidity in reaction medium appropriately (for example pH=1.45) favored a decrease in particle size and an increase in yield.
