Oscillations of a thin magnetically confined plasma layer

The results of a theoretical analysis of the low-frequency oscillations of a thin plasma layer confined by a strong external magnetic field are presented. Taking into account the Larmor drift of charged carriers near the layer surface, it is shown that these oscillations become unstable in both thick (semi-finite) and thin layer limits. In this connection both non-degenerate gaseous and degenerate solid state plasmas are studied. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
