摘要
Previous, cross-sectional studies of adolescent immigrants' problem behavior seemed to indicate that psychosocial adaptation decreases with time of residence in the host country. This was also thought to be true for young ethnic German immigrants to Germany. In the present longitudinal study the intraindividual change in psychosocial adaptation was assessed using data from 220 adolescent ethnic German immigrants from three countries. Results show that the adolescents improve concerning well-being and school problems due to acculturative processes. Adolescents, however, who face a specific risk, show more problem behavior. The discussion sheds light on why the results are so different from those of previous research and how the risk-group could benefit from intervention offers.
